BSCNC Preview (Giving Plans)

When the BSCNC begins on November 10th, one of the topics messengers will be asked to vote on will be the consolidation of the state's giving plans into one uniform plan. While this is a positive step forward, it is still shocking that the state convention would have anything to do with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship or would leave the door open for money to be funneled to the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs and the Baptist Center for Ethics. Why is this even an option? Many of preachers preach against Political Correctness is our society. Maybe it’s time we start preaching against it in the church. These three organizations promote anti-Biblical stances on political, social and most importantly theological issues. We need to purge our convention of these organizations, and this is the best opportunity. This isn’t taking some radical right-wing stance, it’s simply standing on the principles that are clearly present in the Word of God.

This is Shocking!!!

Funerals

I preached my first funeral today. It wasn't what I expected. Mrs. Lena Krueger, 93, passed away on Tuesday morning. I had only knew her for the last year but it definitely a friendship that I will miss. She had led a good life and leaves a legacy that we all should hope for. I preached from II Timothy 4:5-8 and posed the question, "Are you ready"? Paul tells Timothy, who was like a son to him, that there was a crown of righteousness ready for him, but not him alone, but all who love the appearance of the Lord.
I used the text that family wanted (II Timothy 4), yet the message is one that gets left out of a lot of funerals. What an opportunity to share the Gospel. That is what the one whose gone on to be with their Sheppard would want an audience to hear. They are in the arms of the Savior and want you to be there with them, just as Christ wants you there with Him. We as pastors should never pass up the chance to share the Gospel with people who want to hear it.

It's been a while

When I first decided to blog, I knew in the back of my mind, I wouldn't keep it up. And of course I know myself so well. However, I am blogging tonight. It is getting late, approaching bed time no less, but there is time to update. Of course Addie is almost three months old now. The boys are doing well.
